Upgrades to items allow players to increase the gear score of an item to 700, and then add a final perk. Items can be upgraded if they're in your inventory and you decide to take them to the kiln.

Certain items can be upgraded for their unique stats (like a perfectly rolled breakpoint armour used in melee PvP) and others, like weapons, do not vary greatly post upgrade, and therefore aren't worth upgrading.

Weapons

Weapons can be upgraded to increase their numeric stats like crit chance, attack damage, PvE and PvP damage. Weapons also have a flat bonus that increases the damage they deal per second. In addition some weapons come with a set bonus that activates when three or more of the same weapon are present on a unit. In certain instances, this bonus could amount to more than the amount of damage that a weapon is able to upgrade on its own.

The cost of upgrading a weapon's capabilities is contingent on the quality of the weapon and its current level. For instance, a +2 weapon will require two regular Smithing Stones to upgrade while an upgrade of +3 requires four. The number of stones required to upgrade a gun will increase until it requires a higher level of Smithing Stones. At that point it will reset to one.

Upgrades to weapons will also change the stats of their base. This is usually a positive thing, but it can also have negative effects. Upgrades can render items unusable, unless you are extremely lucky.

It is possible to upgrade armor items to improve their effectiveness. In the case of chests or helms, this will increase its defense base while gloves and belts will improve their required strength and dexterity. Armor also has a reroll option for its Enhanced Defense percentage, which means that it can sometimes change its roll to a lower value.

The upgrade template of a weapon will display the new stats it will gain after upgrading, as well as the relative value of those stats. This means that a change from a sword that has 8 damage to an 11-attack-damage sword will result in the weapon gaining 33% attack damage. However the 3% does not mean that it will strike for 3 times less often as it is an absolute number.

Rerolling a weapon can be possible by pressing the green button within the item menu with the arrows that circle. The item will be rerolled and change its stats, however, it will not reset the weapon's levels or bind to account status.

Armor

The Champion Leathers, for instance can be upgraded to an increase of 5 defense rating, which will allow you to stay ahead in cold environments with a lot of enemies. The Snowquill Headdress, on the other hand, can be upgraded as high as +20 defense to ensure you're able to survive a battle with your comrades.

It isn't possible to upgrade armor in the same way as weapons. If you're playing as a Warrior it is best to focus on upgrading your armor for physical power or the power of spells. It's also a good idea to save your armor upgrades for armor you'll be wearing at the end of the game, such as the Ring of Lightning and Spectral Shield, or the helmet you wear to fight the final boss and the Monter Parts Merchant's mask.

By giving the jeweler 10 Twinkling Titanite in Gerudo Town, you can unlock perks for your armor. You'll typically want to keep these upgrades to the weapon you'll be using to win the game. For instance the Longsword or Battleaxe. But it's useful to have some upgrades to the chest armor and helmets to allow you to sneak around some monsters.

Potions

Potions are liquids that when consumed by a player, provide a temporary effect for a short period of time. There are five kinds of potions, each with a specific set of effects and durations. Certain potions can be upgraded to improve their effectiveness. You can also increase the effects of certain potions by adding redstone dust and glowstone dust.

Potion upgrades require a certain amount of XP. This can be earned through crafting them on a table or by storing them in the Alchemist chest. However, the cost of upgrading will vary based on the kind of potion you wish to upgrade, and also on the item's Mark Level as well as its rarity.

To upgrade a potions you need to right-click it in your inventory. Select "Upgrade" from the menu. Players can upgrade trinkets as well as weapons, armor, and potions. Upgrades can be purchased by paying the appropriate currency to an upgrade vendor. As with other upgrades to items trinkets are able to be traded out at any time without losing their stats.

Upgrade vendors can be found at the capitals of each zone and in some cases in dungeons. Upgrades for trinkets are purchased with gold, tokens or fragments of a rare trinket.

Upgrades are a less expensive alternative to buying a new trinket. It is possible to upgrade the player for as little as 12 tokens. The new trinket will come with the same base ilvl as the older one, and have an additional 1% upgrade bonus.

When the old Trinkets are no longer usable, they can be upgraded. This allows a player to increase their power and value with time. They can also be traded between players which makes them an attractive alternative to gold.

In general, players should upgrade their top-priority items first. This means that the best-in slot items for each class are first upgraded, followed by their secondary gear and other equipment that they won't replace in the near future (such as rings or cloaks). Players should also consider their class's preferred stats when deciding which items to upgrade. For example If Haste and Crit are the two most important stats for tankers, they should be focusing on upgrading their helm, chest shoulders, belt, and helm.

When they are no longer useful trinkets can be upgraded to a higher level. The upgraded trinket will give you an additional 1percent bonus. However, a re-upgrade is likely to cause the trinket to be destroyed in the event that it is not saved using a Black Lion Salvage Kit or an alternative salvage tool that is higher-end. This makes upgrading trinkets more expensive than other upgrades, but is still less expensive than buying an entirely new trinket.
